Manschmied Farm
Manschmied Farm
Overview
A farm in or near Birdcruncher territory, given to the party as a task by the Birdcrunchers. The approach was a stealth operation. Some of the farm's inhabitants were already dead on arrival. Pigs were freed. Some humans did not survive the encounter. The party left with what they came for and the unsettled feeling they were following something, not leading.
Campaign Canon
- **Name:** Manschmied Farm. This name does not appear in any extracted module. Module 2 uses "Munchmeat Farm" (Pa Munchmeat's ogre farm). "Manschmied" is either a different farm entirely, a GM renaming, or a player-coined name. Confirmed campaign canon regardless of origin.
- **Approach:** Stealth operation. Sneaky Scorch was in his element. Frizzel Brizzel ranged ahead.
- **On arrival:** Some animals were already dead. Suggested someone else had been through recently. Some human inhabitants did not survive.
- **Outcome:** Pigs were freed. The party departed with what they came for.
Relationship to Module Source
Module 2's equivalent location (Pa Munchmeat's farm) is an ogre druid's farm with fire-breathing boars, an owlbear under the house, and Squealy Nord caged in a pen under an upturned boat. The campaign version may differ significantly — an ogre druid and fire-breathing animals are not mentioned. The "already dead" inhabitants are original campaign content not in the module. Follow campaign version.
What the Party Followed After
After Manschmied Farm, the party followed tracks from the farm into rising terrain toward mountains. The tracks led to dead spiders, then a dead large nesting spider, then up a mountain to a cave with two stone pillars. Inside: two paths, one toward the spider sign, and at the spider camp — the transport device.
Notes
- The farm is not where Squealy Nord was kept in this campaign. Nord was recovered from the first farm (the one the elf Shalelu mentioned, between the first celebration and the second ship expedition).
- The animals freed at Manschmied Farm are not specified — pigs are mentioned generically, not Squealy Nord by name.
- The "unsettled feeling of following something" is a narrative beat from the primary source indicating the party's awareness that events were not entirely under their control.
